Lifelong hunter and Marine Corps veteran Mike Stilson got the adventure of a lifetime when the Send-A-Vet Foundation teamed up with Kok & Seyffert Big Game Hunting and Big Game Hunting Adventures (two veteran owned and operated businesses) to send him on an African hunting safari in 2017. Mike served in the Marines from 2006 until 2010 and was severely wounded by an Improvised Explosive Device on a deployment to Iraq in 2007. Several years later, he found out about the Send-A-Vet Foundation.
You can learn all about Send-A-Vet by checking out the profile I wrote about them, but basically, the group organizes big game hunts, fishing expeditions, rafting trips, and other outdoor adventures for wounded veterans with the goal of helping them recover from injuries sustained while fighting in defense of their country.
Check out the video to see how Mike’s hunt went.
Like most responsible hunters, they fully utilized all the meat from the animals harvested on the hunt.
The Send-A-Vet foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and relies on donations for all the adventures they sponsor for wounded veterans. If you would like to learn more about them or make a donation, visit their website and/or Facebook page. If you or someone you know is a disabled or combat wounded veteran and would like information on how to participate an outdoor adventure, reach out to them through either site.
